NEW THIS WEEK

Crash (NC-17) (100 min.) B _ Director David Cronenberg makes us squirm with a tale of oversexed people who get aroused by auto accidents. Seductive, in a sick sort of way.

Kolya (PG-13) (110 min.) B+ _ A Czech bachelor becomes guardian to a precocious little boy. Nominated for best foreign language film of 1996.

Liar, Liar (PG-13) (91 min.) A- _ Jim Carrey finds a great vehicle for his madcap mugging, as a lawyer who must tell the truth for 24 hours.

Selena (PG) (131 min.) B- _ Glossy biography of the slain Tejano music star, with a charismatic performance by Jennifer Lopez in the title role. A nice tribute, but not a good biography.

Smilla's Sense of Snow (R) (120 min.) C- _ Collapsible mystery starring Julia Ormond as a woman on the trail of a child's killer. Gabriel Byrne and Richard Harris co-star.
