Pinellas County Department of Consumer Protection is warning residents about a telemarketer who is asking people to participate in a consumer product survey.
After the initial call, the telemarketer will call again several weeks later, offering a gift for helping with the survey.
To receive the gift, consumers are asked to observe a product demonstration.
The company then will schedule an appointment at the person's home and a sales representative will try to sell an expensively priced product such as a vacuum cleaner or air filtration unit.
Consumers have reported that when they decline to buy the product they are subjected to high pressure sales tactics.
Consumers are advised that answering questions in a telephone survey may lead to their name and information being furnished to other companies selling products.
For information, call 462-6200.
