Help needed with salt marsh plantings

Published Oct. 1, 2005

Tampa BayWatch Inc. and Coastal Conservation Association Florida needs volunteers for the salt marsh planting from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve in Ruskin.

For the restoration event to be a success, 200 volunteers are needed to plant more than 20,000 salt marsh plants into newly created tidal ponds. Salt marsh communities provide fish and wildlife habitat, improves water quality and stabilizes the shoreline area around the bay. Wear clothes that you do not mind getting muddy and use appropriate sun protection.

For directions and to preregister, call 896-5320. Lunch and refreshments will be provided to all volunteers.
