Man accused of lewd act involving teen

Police arrested a 56-year-old man on Thursday on a charge of committing a lewd and lascivious act involving a child under 16.

Eugene A. Karpinski, a self-employed carpenter, was arrested at his home on Fifth Avenue in Zephyrhills in connection with a December 1996 incident, according to police reports.

Police said Karpinski drove up to a young girl on the afternoon of Dec. 17 and asked for directions. When she approached the car, Karpinski was masturbating, according to reports. He was being held in the county jail Friday on $100,000 bail.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges against man

PORT RICHEY _ A man stopped for driving with a cracked taillight was arrested on drug charges after a deputy found a plastic bag of marijuana, rolling papers and 30 pills of the prescription drug Percocet, reports said.

When he stepped out of his pickup truck, Blake M. Rutledge, 36, told the deputy his license had been suspended and there was a warrant out for his arrest.

He also said the deputy might find a "couple of roaches" he had smoked earlier that day, according to reports.

Rutledge, of 17339 East Road, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and displaying a tag not assigned, reports said.

He was being held at the county jail on $17,000 bail.
