Stevens and Rocktoff quit coaching posts

Clearwater Central Catholic announced the resignation of boys basketball coach Vic Stevens. Stevens was 17-41 in two seasons with the Marauders, but CCC athletic director Bob Cotter issued a statement that the record did not factor into Stevens' decision. Cotter is accepting applications at the school, 2750 Haines Bayshore Road, Clearwater, 34620.

Greg Rocktoff, the Times'

1996 girls swimming Coach of the Year, resigned as coach at East Lake.

Rocktoff, 39, was part of the Eagles' program for 10 years, the past two as head coach for both boys and girls. He led the girls to their first Pinellas County Athletic Conference title last fall. The team also won its district and placed 11th at the Class 6A state meet. His boys team won the PCAC in 1995.

"The hardest thing was (former coach) D.

J. Condon and I build the program from scratch up to being, I think, the best team in the Tampa Bay area," Rocktoff said. "I'm sure people would argue, but we beat everybody this year. It is tough stepping away from something you built."

Rocktoff plans to pursue a master's degree through Nova University. East Lake has not selected a replacement.
