Days after two men were gunned down during an armed robbery, authorities have made an arrest in the crime.
Elijah Woodard, 21, of 4603 N 26th St., was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the death of Darryn Jones, 25, said Tampa police Sgt. George McNamara. He also was charged with attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of Michael Taylor, 25, who survived his injuries, McNamara said.
The two men were talking and getting into a car in the 3500 block of N 22nd Street at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, when they were approached by a group of men that included Woodard, McNamara said. Both men were robbed, and Jones was shot once in the chest. He died at the scene.
Taylor, who managed to escape, was shot in the left thigh and left foot. Jones recently was discharged from the armed forces, and Taylor played Class A minor league baseball for the Dunedin Blue Jays for four years, McNamara said.
The case remains under investigation.
