Clearwater Scout gets Eagle Award

Peter Martin Arnold, son of Paul and Corinne Arnold of Clearwater, has completed the requirements for his Eagle Scout award.

Arnold is a member of Boy Scout Troop 455, sponsored by St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Clearwater.

For his Eagle project, he planned and managed the construction of a trellis grotto around an existing life-size statue in the church's meditation garden.

The project included designing the trellis, obtaining approvals for the project, raising money to help purchase materials, arranging donations and finding sources for the materials.

Construction took most of a day and involved the parents and Scouts from Troop 455 and members of the Colreavy Council, Knights of Columbus.

Arnold began Scouting as a member of Cub Scout Pack 455, also sponsored by St. Cecelia's. He joined Boy Scout Troop 456 at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Clearwater, before helping to start Troop 455 at St. Cecelia's.

He is a member of the Order of the Arrow, has earned 29 merit badges and served as senior patrol leader and assistant Scoutmaster.

Arnold is a senior at Clearwater High School, where he has served as manager of the boys basketball team for four years.

After graduation, he plans to train as a firefighter.

Dunedin graduate

serves internship

Michael Allen Loomis, son of Dwight and Camilla Loomis of Dunedin, is serving his teaching internship this spring at Atlantic High School in Port Orange.

Loomis, a graduate of Dunedin High School, is a senior at Stetson University in DeLand.

Dancer selected for

New York program

Hilary Glade, a student of the West Florida Ballet in Oldsmar, has been accepted into the Alvin Ailey Dance Summer Program in New York.

Glade, who appeared March 9 in the Wizard of Oz at Ruth Eckerd Hall, auditioned for the program, which accepts 150 students each summer.

Clearwater woman

passes state CPA exam

Berta M. MacLaren, daughter of Berta Penabades of Clearwater and the late Gabriel Penabades, has passed the state of Florida's Certified Public Accountant's exam.

MacLaren, an accountant for the city of Largo, is a 1988 graduate of Clearwater High School, a 1990 graduate of St. Petersburg Junior College and a 1992 graduate of the University of South Florida.

MacLaren and her husband, Paul, live in Clearwater.

Military news

Navy Hospitalman Recruit Anthony P. Vale, son of Cameron and Suzanne Vale of Oldsmar, has graduated from the Basic Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Ill. Vale is a 1996 graduate of East Lake High School. He has been assigned to the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville.

Navy Airman Kim V. Vigliatura, daughter of Kenneth and Josephine Bashford of Clearwater, has completed basic training at the Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Vigliatura is a 1991 graduate of East Lake High School.
