Today's topic: Good for you

The Crystal River/Springs AARP Chapter 2978 celebrated Women's History month at its meeting Thursday. A proclamation was issued by Crystal River Mayor Curtis Rich recognizing the contributions of women to the history of America and designating March as Women's History Month.

A presentation of the achievements of several outstanding women in history was made by Ruth Pedrick and Pat Storm. Carol Wynn also was recognized for her efforts in starting a mentoring program in the Citrus County school system.

Homosassa resident Ann Burch recently was notified that her article on the Yulee Day Festival of 1997 has been accepted for publication by Florida Living Magazine of Gainesville. The publication date has not been confirmed.

The festival was first held in June 1996 to coincide with the birthday of David Levy Yulee, Florida's first U.S. senator, a railroad builder and resident of Homosassa and Archer. The festival is sponsored by the Archer Historical Society and will take place this year on June 14 in Archer, 10 miles northwest of Gainesville.
