DEAR READERS: Remember Netday96, when volunteers went into schools and wired them for internet access? Volunteers completely wired Sandy Lane Elementary in Clearwater and Sutherland Elementary in Palm Harbor. Several other schools including Lealman Avenue Elementary in St. Petersburg are near completion.
But others are waiting to be wired. To that end, the Pinellas County school system once again is seeking volunteers to work on April 19. As before, help is needed to stretch cable, hold ladders and serve refreshments. Especially needed are experienced Cat5, coax or telephone installers to complete the more technical work. Also needed are donations of Netday 2000 Kits, which cost $422.09 or $627.79 depending on the area where they will be used.
We've made tremendous progress. The amount of work accomplished has been inspiring, and it's not too late to be a part of it. School offices are closed this week, but they will reopen March 31. Make a note. To donate a kit or to donate your time, call the school of your choice or the Technology for Instruction office at 588-6357.
