HILLSBOROUGH OBITUARIES

BERRIOS, ENRIQUE JR., 82, of Tampa, died Sunday (March 23, 1997) at Town 'N Country Hospital. He was born in Puerto Rico and came here in 1967 from California. He was a minister and a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Delia C.; four sons, Enrique Berrios III, Monterey, Calif., Joseph Alonso, Benjamin and David Berrios, all of Tampa; four daughters, Carmen Padin, Prunedale, Calif., Norma Rodriguez, and Elisa Cancel, both of Tampa and Lourdes Feimster, Dublin, Ga.; four brothers, Pedro, Fermin and Miguel, all of Puerto Rico, Luis, Orlando; six sisters, Mariana, Mercedes, Providencia, Monserrate, Herminia, and Mayita Berrios, all of Puerto Rico; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. DOONAN, RITA L., 72, of Tampa, died Sunday (March 23, 1997) at Tampa General Hospital. Born in New York City, she came here in 1971 from Rockford, Ill. She was a retired administrative assistant for Colonial Penn. She was Catholic. Survivors include a son, Michael "Skip," Tampa; two daughters, Victoria "Vicki" Doonan, Beloit, Wis., and Laura "Lori" Nader, Tampa; a brother, James Howard, New York City; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. HEWLETT, RUTH R. PEERY, 84, of Lutz, died Saturday (March 22, 1997) in Lutz. She was born in Missouri and came to the area in 1960 from Ohio. She was a mathematics teacher. She was a member of Sunlake Baptist Church, a member of the Eastern Star Friendship Chapter 209, a member of the China Painters Club of Tampa and was an active community volunteer. She was a graduate of Central Methodist College, Fayette, Mo. Survivors include her granddaughter, Carry Simons, Plant City; two grandsons, David W. Hewlett Jr., Hampton, Va. and Carl W. LANGTON, RUBY W., 89, of Tampa, died Sunday (March 23, 1997) in Tampa. She was born in Tulsa, Okla., and came here 17 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Forrest Hills Presbyterian Church. McQUAIG, ROBERT W., 78, of Plant City, died Saturday (March 22, 1997) in Plant City. He was born in Mississippi and came here in 1924. He was the manager or Starkey Lumber Company. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brandon. Survivors include his wife, Daisy; a son, Robert Jr., Lakeland; three daughters, Catherine Jackson and Rebecca McQuaig, both of Plant City and Susan Henderson, Wilmette, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Eugenia Morrill, Brandon; eight sisters, Jean and Janice McQuaig, Carol Platt, Miriam Bowman and Ruth Chancey, all of Plant City, Annette Sims, Fort Myers, Frances Berry, Bartow, and Sara McQuaig, New York; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. MATTHAI, VIRGINIA, 69, of Plant City, died Monday (March 24, 1997) at South Florida Baptist Hospital. She was born in Chicago and came here four years ago from Sarasota. She was a sales associate with Simply Country. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Plant City. Survivors include a son, Geoffrey, Plant City; two daughters, Judi Stewart, Key Stone Heights and Jennifer Garner, Buford, Ga.; a sister, Dorothy Ulrich, Two Rivers, Wis.; and nine grandchildren. MERRITT, HARRY "MERV" SR., 82, of Plant City, died Saturday (March 22, 1997) in Plant City. He was born in Port Washington, N.Y., and came here in 1987. He was a retired welder for Long Island Lighting Co. and was a member of the IBEW. Survivors include three sons, Harry M. Jr., Plant City, Daniel W., Phoenix, and John, Cocoa; two daughters, Ruth Kenworthy, Tampa and Ann Carapezza, Plant City; a brother, Roy, Port Washington, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. SHAW, HAZEL FISK, 87, of Plant City, died Sunday (March 23, 1997) at Community Convalescent Center, Plant City. She was born in Cumberland Hill, R.I., and later moved to the Tampa area. Haynes Memorial Funeral Home, Plant City.
