Three St. Cecelia Interparochial School pupils are winners in an essay contest sponsored by the Clearwater chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The theme of this year's contest was "Trails West." Pupils wrote about the western expansion of the United States and how pioneers traveled during that era.

Benjamin Michael Christman took first place in the fifth-grade category; Mark Moss won the sixth-grade competition; and Lauren Croman took first place for eighth grade.

First-place winners received a medal, a certificate and $25. They also read their winning essays at a luncheon honoring them and their teachers.
