A 39-year-old Shady Hills man convicted of sexual activity with a 12-year-old boy was sentenced Tuesday to a six-year prison term.
Circuit Judge Craig Villanti also ordered Lonzo Doss' sentence to be followed by 24 years of probation.
In February, a jury convicted Doss of sexual activity with a minor. Doss, whose public defender called him mentally handicapped, told Villanti at his sentencing, "I didn't do it."
But the judge told Doss that he didn't have any doubt in his mind that the victim's testimony at trial was believable.
"It is disheartening . . . that Mr. Doss is still in denial," Villanti said.
Sheriff's investigators say that Doss admitted committing the sexual acts against the boy, who attended Doss' sentencing with his mother.
Mother charged with neglect
ZEPHYRHILLS _ A 26-year-old woman accused of leaving her 3- and 5-year-old daughters unattended for an hour and a half was charged Tuesday with child neglect.
Rhonda Ann Plummer, 6433 Hoover St., Zephyrhills, was held on $10,000 bail Tuesday at the Pasco County jail in Land O'Lakes.
According to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report, Plummer's 5-year-old called 911 after waking up at home and finding her mother absent. A deputy said the girls were endangered because a rifle stored in a bedroom was within easy access.
A sheriff's report does not note Plummer's whereabouts.
Repairman charged with exploitation
NEW PORT RICHEY _ Leonard J. Bova, 30, of 312 W Emma St., Tampa, is accused of taking $3,000 from a Pasco woman for home repairs he never completed.
He was charged Monday with exploitation of the elderly, according to a Sheriff's Office report.
According to court papers, Bova completed home repairs in June and July 1995 for Clarabell Walker, 86, 5251 Tami Lane, Holiday.
Bova then suggested that Walker needed new windows, a sheriff's witness affidavit said. Bova received a $3,000 cash advance on one of Walker's credit cards but did not complete the work, the affidavit said.
He was being held at the Pasco County Jail in Land O'Lakes on $20,000 bail.
