An 11-year-old Citrus Springs Elementary School pupil was arrested Thursday, accused of hitting a school bus driver on the way to school. The boy, whose name is being withheld because of his age, was charged with felony battery on a school official. According to a Citrus County Sheriff's Office report, there was a disturbance on the bus about 7:50 a.m. in the area of Beverly Hills Boulevard and Melbourne Street. The boy was sitting behind the driver, Elizabeth DeCoste, 38, of Dunnellon, and yelling and throwing candy toward the back of the bus, the report said. DeCoste told the boy to move to another seat, the report said, but he refused. DeCoste and the boy got into a tussle over his lunch box and book bag. As she turned around, the boy struck her several times in the arm and leg, the report said. The boy then returned to his seat, cursing DeCoste, the report said. The boy was arrested and taken to the county jail, where he was released to his parents.
