Arrested woman says she is HIV positive

Police working an undercover operation arrested a woman Wednesday afternoon on charges that she solicited for prostitution while knowing that she had been diagnosed with the virus that causes AIDS.

Vickie Jane Walden, 36, was being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail. She is listed as a transient.

St. Petersburg police said that while in the 1700 block of 34 Street N, Walden offered to perform oral sex on an undercover officer for $25. After being arrested, Walden told an officer she had been diagnosed as HIV positive, records said.

Largo man accused of injuring infant

LARGO _ A 27-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on aggravated child abuse charges, accused of fracturing the skull of a 2-month-old child.

Johnny W. French of 8831 93 Ave. N, Largo, was being held at the Pinellas County Jail on $25,000 bail.

Sheriff's deputies said the child was injured at French's home about 8 a.m. Tuesday. French told deputies he knew he had injured the child but did not know how, arrest reports state.

French is listed as the child's primary caregiver, but reports do not say whether the child is his.
