Jail inmate sues county judge

Henry Francis, jailed for trespassing at a Homosassa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and accused this month of domestic assault and assaulting law officers, is suing Citrus County Judge Mark Yerman. In a lawsuit filed in circuit court Wednesday, Francis, 59, alleges that Yerman unfairly dismissed three misdemeanor cases that Francis had filed. Francis accuses Yerman of bias and of having a conflict of interest in the cases. He is seeking $5,000 in damages and asks that Yerman be removed from any cases he or his wife may file.

Council sells nursing home

CRYSTAL RIVER _ The Crystal River City Council this week opted to sell the nursing home it will acquire in 1999 to the Waverley Group, a Jackson, Miss., company. Waverley, operator of the Crystal River Geriatrics Center, will purchase the property for $1.64-million, plus legal costs. The nursing home was built in the mid-1970s using a special bond that required the city's involvement. As a condition of the bond, Crystal River will assume ownership of the property in 1999, when the nursing home pays off the bond. Monday night, council members voted 4-1 to accept the Waverley Group's offer. The city was not required to competitively bid the facility.
