Clearwater gym damaged; volleyball tourney moved

Jack Wilson Memorial Gymnasium will not be home to the Clearwater High volleyball, wrestling and basketball teams any time soon. Heavy rain and strong wind from a storm Monday morning blew part of the gymnasium's roof off and forced the bulding to be condemned.

The Tornadoes were supposed to host the Class 5A, District 9 volleyball tournament, which starts today and ends Thursday. The tournament site, however, has been switched to Countryside.

The boys and girls basketball teams and the wrestling team still are searching for a practice site and a place to play their home games and meets.

"It's crucial for us to have a gymnasium," Clearwater principal Nick Grasso said. "We have so many activities and this not only affects those but our entire physical education department."
