BRYANT, TARI CHRISTINE, 15, of Tampa, died Thursday (Oct. 23, 1997) in Tampa. A Tampa native, she was a sophmore at Robinson High High School. She was an honor student and a past member of the school band. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, Brandon. Survivors include her mother, Judith A. Bryant, Tampa; her father, Michael Bryant, Pensacola; a brother, Jason David Scott, Tampa; two sisters, Briana Dawn and Brittany Nicole Bryant, both of Pensacola; paternal grandparents, Bob and Ann Bryant, Brewton, Ala.; paternal great-grandmother, Eva Ruth Huff, Brewton; maternal grandfather, James Sass, Tampa; maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Betty J. and Robert Alguire, Tampa; and maternal great-grandmother, Kay Haynam, West Palm Beach. BURRIS, JOSEPH E., 70, of Plant City, died Saturday (Oct. 25, 1997) in Hendersonville, N.C. He was born in Lutz and worked for TECO as an electrical engineer more than 30 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; two sons, Edward, Panama City, Fla., and Fred, Tampa; a daughter, Eileen Patterson, Tampa; a brother, Frank, Shreveport, La.; and seven grandchildren. BERTSCH, CATHERINE I., 99, of Tampa, died Sunday (Oct. 26, 1997) in Tampa. She was born in Marion, Ind., and came to Tampa 43 years ago from Carmel, Ind. She was a telephone operator for Union Telephone Co., and was a former member of the Eastern Star, both in Carmel. Survivors include two sons, James M., Alta Loma, Calif., and John T., Greenfield, Ind.; a daughter, Frances Carr, Tampa; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. COONEY, ROBERT M., 63, of Tampa, died, Friday (Oct. 24, 1997) in Tampa. A Navy veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War, he returned to his native Tampa in 1983 from Charleston, S.C. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and was Protestant. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Maureen Cooney Maxson, Fort Myers, and Helen Cooney, Tampa; and six grandchildren. CORNYN, CATHERINE R., 78, of Sun City Center, died Sunday (Oct. 26, 1997) at Columbia South Bay Hospital. She was born in Pittsburgh and came to the Tampa area five months ago from Vero Beach. A homemaker, she was a parishioner of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sun City Center. Survivors include her husband, Charles Jr.; four sons, Charles III, Port St. Lucie, Daniel, James, and Michael, all of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Ann Cornyn Murphy, Tampa; a sister, Margaret Tronsberg, Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren. FISHER, MADELINE C., 83, of Sun City Center, died Saturday (Oct. 25, 1997) at Columbia South Bay Hospital. Born in New York City, she had been an area resident since 1987. She was a retired secretary for Royal Globe Insurance Co. and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Sandra Fisher; and two grandchildren, Edward and Allison Fisher, all of Tampa. Lewers Funeral Home, Ruskin.

FERNANDEZ, LUCY, 51, of Tampa, died Thursday (Oct. 23, 1997) in Tampa. A native of Puerto Rico, she came to Tampa in 1993 from Lancaster, Pa. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Kike Gomez; two daughters, Edith, Tampa, and Maribel, Lancaster; two sons, Flaco and John, both of Lancaster; and several brothers and sisters. KAPAS, DENNIS DENO A., 61, of Brandon, died Monday (Oct. 20, 1997) at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. A native of Greece, he came to the Tampa Bay area in 1972 from New Jersey. He moved to the Brandon area two years ago. He was retired from the retail sales industry. Survivors include two sons, Nicholas C., San Francisco, and John P., St. Petersburg; a daughter, Kathy Sutter, Portland, Ore.; a brother, John C., Lincoln Park, N.J.; and two grandchildren. LOIDA, EDNA L., 104, of Tampa, died Sunday (Oct. 26, 1997) in Tampa. She was born in St. Louis and came to Tampa in 1990. She was a homemaker and a member of United Church of Christ. Survivors include four grandchildren, Barbara Summers and Robert Loida, Tampa, Douglas Maag, Columbus, Ohio, and Laurel Sakai, Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. McKEE, ALMA I., 86, of Ruskin and of Morenci, Mich., died Sunday (Oct. 26, 1997) at Lynwood Manor, Adrian, Mich. She was born in Allerton, Ill., and moved to Morenci in 1989. Survivors include three sons, John, Rockwood, Mich., Earl, Jacksonville, and Donald, Atoka, Tenn.; three daughters, Doris Powell and Phyllis Goldsmith, both of Morenci, and Shirley Mutter, Hamilton, Ala.; a brother, Harry Archer, Broadlands, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. MATHEWS, AGNES DUKE, 88, of Tampa, died Saturday (Oct. 25, 1997) in Tampa. A Tampa native, she attended Stetson University, and was a member of National League of American Pen Women and was in the World Who's Who of Women. Survivors include a daughter, Claudia M. MILLER, RUBY K. "WHILDEN," 74, of Tampa, died Sunday (Oct. 26, 1997) in Tampa. She was born in Birmingham, Ala., and later moved to Tampa. She was a department manager in the retail sales industry and was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Glenda C. Melching and Sharon K. Leverett, both of Tampa, and Beverly Forsell, New Jersey; two sons, Alan David, Baltimore, and Bruce Edward, Greer, S.C.; a sister, Louise B. SPOTO, ANGIE, 89, of Tampa, died Friday (Oct. 24, 1997) at Memorial Hospital. She was born in Denver and moved to the Tampa area in 1910. She was a homemaker and a Roman Catholic. SWENSON, EDWINA E., 60, of Tampa, died Friday (Oct. 24, 1997) at home. She was born in Kansas and came here in 1971 from Wichita, Kan. She was a secretary. Survivors include her mother, Opal Rasbach; three sons, Thomas, John and Christopher, all of Tampa; two daughters, Wendy Dudley, Tampa, and Dena Kibbe, Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Johnnie McElwain, Seattle; a sister, Norma Matuk, Neodesha, Kan.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. WILKES, ERNEST E. "PETE," 77, of Seffner, died Saturday (Oct. 25, 1997) at home. He was born in Oak Park, Ga., and came to the Tampa area in 1988 from Mechanicsburg, Pa. He was a retired Navy veteran, with 22 years of service. He served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Ann; two sons, John, Carlisle, Pa., and Mark, Dauphin, Pa.; a daughter, Catherine Peters, Lewisberry, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Annette M. Dunn, Mechanicsburg; two brothers, Curtis, Pooler, Ga., and Jerry, Vadalia, Ga.; a sister, Emma Jean Catiloga, Jacksonville; and two grandchildren. Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon.
