RSVP _ what is it?

It's a program of the National Senior Service Corps. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program offers people 55 and older service opportunities in their communities. RSVP involves seniors in service that matches their personal interests, skills and life experiences.

RSVP benefits our community by providing hundreds of services, ranging from activities at adult living facilities to tutoring at-risk students to delivering Meals on Wheels to homebound residents. Through those efforts, RSVP is meeting the needs of Hernando residents that cannot be covered by local budgets.

During the 1996-97 year, more than 1,000 RSVP volunteers served 112,836 hours at 97 volunteer stations. However, the need for volunteer services seems to be increasing.

RSVP has a newsletter that lists volunteer opportunities, with a description and contact person to call. You may request this newsletter by calling the RSVP office at 544-6475.
