Berkeley Prep and Academy of Holy Names had little trouble dispatching their opponents Tuesday, setting up an all-Tampa final in the Class 3A, District 9 tournament.
Berkeley Prep (18-10) needed less than 30 minutes to beat host Clearwater Central Catholic 15-1, 15-6.
After being leveled in the first game, the Marauders (9-20) hung tough early in the second, scoring five straight points to draw within 7-6. But sophomore Yoshiko Ozawa closed out the game for the Bucs with seven straight points on serve.
In the opener, St. Petersburg Catholic (10-13) gave Academy of Holy Names a scare in the first game with an early 9-1 lead. But the Jaguars (19-10) rallied to tie it at 12 then scored the last three points to win 15-12.
The Jaguars won the second game 15-4.
The district championship will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Clearwater Central Catholic. Both teams will advance to the regionals.
Class A, District 10
ST. PETERSBURG _ Keswick Christian lost to Canterbury earlier in the season, but won when it counted, 15-12, 15-8 in the first round at Shorecrest.
Trailing 10-7 in Game 1, Keswick rallied behind Alyssa Haigh and Cindy White. Haigh had five kills and White served on six straight points to put the Crusaders ahead to stay, 13-10.
In the second game, the Crusaders led 14-3 but had trouble putting it away. Canterbury's Robin Lane served on five straight points to make it 14-8. Keswick ended it on a Heather Greener ace.
The Crusaders will meet the host Chargers in the district final at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Shorecrest was without starting setter Carly Zillig for its semifinal against Indian Rocks Christian. Another freshman, Kim Johnson, filled in and made her first varsity start. Johnson played well, setting up Katie Haskell, Lisa Bradley and Kelley Bacon, as the Chargers went on to a 15-3, 15-10 victory. Bacon led with seven kills and Johnson had seven aces.
