County men's softball gets a little tighter

The race for the Citrus County Men's Softball League championship, which had been a one-team showgot a little closer thanks to Phillips Tire's 13-12 extra-innings upset of previously unbeaten Skidmore's. Phillips is just one game out of first with five dates left in the season.

Phillips completed its successful week with a 17-9 win over Sportsters while Skidmore's rebounded with a 24-2 win over ProLine Boats. Sportsters, which handled Artistic Marble and Tile 19-10 last Tuesday, sits alone in third, one game ahead of Five-O and ProLine, which moved into a tie for fourth with a forfeit over Five-O.

INVERNESS LEAGUES: BMW/Independent Aggregates took control of the women's league by two games with a 19-0 win over Water's Edge Pelicans. Larry's Auto climbed back into a tie for second with an 18-5 win over Gold and Diamond Exchange.

Meanwhile, the men's league had its schedule cut short due to rain and saw little change among the leaders. The only team to help itself considerably was Holloway Marine, which moved into a tie for third with Mid-State Glass/Lecanto 44 after topping Wooten's Auto Corp 10-9.

Citrus Collision, which beat Apopka Marine 28-12, remains in sole possession of second, and Quality Blinds and Just Sports join three others at 3-3 after Quality scored a 16-2 win on Thursday.
