Citing the constant barrage of criticism toward coach John Mackovic, Texas tailback Ricky Williams said if the sixth-year coach goes, so will he.
Williams had said he would remain true to his word and stay at Texas. But after Texas lost to Colorado on Saturday and wasted his third consecutive 200-yard rushing performance, Williams has changed his tune.
"I'm just pretty upset about some of the people around here and the way that they've been treating Coach Mackovic," he said. "He's one of the reasons why I came here, and if he's not here, I don't really want to be here."
Mackovic said it is inappropriate at this point for Williams to talk about going to the NFL. Williams said he doesn't plan on petitioning the NFL to find out his draft status.
PENN STATE: Joe Paterno will go for his 400th victory as a member of the coaching staff when the Lions face Northwestern Saturday. Paterno was 104-48-6 as an assistant under Rip Engle and is 295-74-3 as coach.
