Two Durant High School students, a twin brother and sister, were injured early Tuesday in a car crash when the student who was driving them to school lost control of his car, Hillsborough sheriff's officials said.
Stephanie and Donavan Neely, both 17, of Plant City, were taken to Tampa General Hospital after the crash, sheriff's Cpl. George Mosher said. Stephanie Neely was in fair condition, and Donavan Neely was released late Tuesday, hospital officials said.
The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. while Sonny Welch, 18, of Plant City, was driving the Neelys to school on Keysville Road west of State Road 39, Mosher said. Welch, driving a Geo Prism, tried to pass several cars on the two-lane road and swerved back into his lane when he was faced with oncoming traffic.
The Prism spinned and flipped, smashing into a tree, Mosher said. The Neelys both were thrown from the car. Welch was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
No charges had been filed Tuesday. Sheriff's officials are investigating the crash.
