Visitors to the 1998 International Car Show at the Tampa Convention Center can get a look at the new Plymouth Prowler on display. The show opened Wednesday and runs through Sunday. That means commuters into downtown Tampa on Friday morning should brace themselves for heavy traffic snarls. On top of the daily influx of 30,000 commuters and the 12,000 expected at the auto show, evangelist T.D. Jakes is expected to draw 16,000 people to the Ice Palace. Commuters are encouraged to arrive downtown before 7 a.m. or after 11 a.m. Extra parking will be available near the Port's Terminal 6 on Twiggs Street, where a shuttle service will pick up and drop off commuters.
