Jacklyn Hirschfeld, a standout hitter and infielder with Tampa Catholic High School and the Tampa Mustang 18-and-under team, made a verbal commitment to Florida State University starting next year.
She plans to give FSU coach JoAnne Graf her signature on the first signing date, Nov. 14.
Because of a broken foot, Hirschfeld missed TC's regular season, but played in the Class 3A state title game, won by the Crusaders 1-0. She had a pinch-hit double in the game.
As a member of the International Softball Association World Champion Mustangs last summer, she led the team in hitting at .449. She had one homer, two triples and six doubles.
Tampa Catholic had no seniors last year and will have the entire team back to defend its state title.
"Since I was a small child, I have always wanted to play softball for the Seminoles," she said. "Sallie Scudder, my Mustang coach, has been a big help in helping me improve my game and helped me make the FSU contacts. I am glad this decision is over. Now I can concentrate on helping my team at Tampa Catholic repeat."
