A parade to kick off a 100-day countdown to the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, Clearwater's sister city, is scheduled today.
The parade starts at City Hall, 112 S Osceola Ave., at 11:15 a.m. and will end 30 to 45 minutes later at Station Square Park on Cleveland Street.
The parade will feature bands, city officials and many of the volunteers who plan to travel to Nagano during the Olympics to help Clearwater run its $395,000 exhibit about Florida.
At the park, the city will display Japanese clothes and musical instruments. A digital clock that will count down the days to the Olympics will be unveiled, and the city will introduce the Snowlets, the official mascots for the 1998 Winter Olympics. The games begin Feb. 7.
