"Sun' keeps kids watertight

When the rain falls, children at Floral City Elementary School traveling from portable classrooms to lunch or specials _ art, music, P.E. _ get wet. There are no covered walkways attached to those buildings and the children are at the mercy of the elements.

"We had been improvising with garbage bags," said Assistant Principal Janet Reed.

But the children needed something a little more sophisticated. SunTrust came to the rescue.

"They bought 50 ponchos (for the children)," Reed said, "and six umbrellas, so the teachers would have something, too. The kids were so excited."

Luann Nelson's second-grade class created thank-you cards for SunTrust Vice President Rocky Hensley. One, he told Reed, was particularly memorable: "Thank you for the rain poncho," the child wrote. "You're very nice. You'll go to heaven."
