County maintenance worker Dave Knepp, foreground, clears dirt from pipes that contain GTE phone cables beneath Seminole Boulevard. Knepp was trying to determine if they were damaged by water that poured from a nearby broken water main. Cutting asphalt in the background is Willie Miller. The main, under the northbound lanes of Seminole Boulevard just north of Walsingham Road, broke early Wednesday. Workers discovered that a valve on the 20-year-old pipe had deteriorated. The northbound lanes of Seminole Boulevard were closed during rush hour, but by noon, the pipe had been repaired and the road reopened.
