A man posing as a prospective guest robbed the Holiday Inn on Cortez Boulevard of $294.12 in cash and two personal checks worth $575 Wednesday, authorities said. The man walked into the lobby and asked the receptionist about room rates at 6:40 p.m., according to a Hernando County sheriff's report. The man appeared to be leaving when he turned around, slammed his hands down in front of the receptionist and then jumped onto the counter. The receptionist ran into a back office and locked the door, the report said. The man, who never tried to open the door, opened the register and took the money. He also knocked over a computer printer. After the man left, the receptionist, who was not hurt, came out and called 911, the report said. The man was wearing gloves and did not leave any fingerprints. Deputies did not find any witnesses. The receptionist was unable to give a detailed description of the man.
