Deluge causes street flooding in the Magnolia Valley area

Heavy rains caused street flooding and some house flooding in the Magnolia Valley area Friday evening, forcing authorities to close Sheelin and Adare drives and Cavan Street. The water made the streets impassable and crept into several houses on Sheelin Street, although residents were not forced out of their homes, according to the Magnolia Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Pasco County Fire-Rescue reported scattered street flooding elsewhere in the county.

Sheriff Cannon sent home

from New Port Richey hospital

NEW PORT RICHEY _ Sheriff Lee Cannon was released Friday afternoon from Columbia New Port Richey Hospital, where he had undergone tests for stomach pain. Cannon, who was admitted Wednesday, started feeling better Friday and was sent home.Cannon, 52, will undergo more tests as an outpatient next week.

Man, 22, killed, two injured

after car is struck by pickup

HUDSON _ A 22-year-old man was killed and two people were seriously injured Thursday night when their car was hit and overturned on Oakwood Drive near Joshua Lane, said the Florida Highway Patrol. Christian B. Kent, of 16245 Jetson Drive, was thrown from his 1993 Pontiac after it was hit by a pickup truck and forced off the road, the FHP said. Kent, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was dead at the scene. His passengers, Robert Griffin, 38, and Joey Wooten, 17, both of 1011 Shady Drive, were flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. They were in serious condition late Friday. Authorities said Kent was heading west on Oakwood Drive at 10:55 p.m. when a 1993 Chevrolet pickup driven by Richard Hampshire, 27, turned in front of Kent and struck his car. Hampshire, of 14911 Sheila Drive in Hudson, was not injured. The FHP is investigating.

Highway Patrol seeks help

in Oct. 13 hit-and-run death

HOLIDAY _ The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking help finding a hit-and-run driver who left a pedestrian dying in a ditch Oct. 13. The man, who still has not been identified, was struck and killed near the intersection of Alt. U.S. 19 and Holiday Lake Drive about 9:30 p.m. The FHP is looking for a medium-sized white vehicle with damage to the right front. Anyone with information is asked to call Cpl. K.W.
