1996-97 RECORD: 10-17, 1-13 in Sunshine State Conference.

COACH: Tom Ryan (second season, 10-17).

KEY RETURNERS: Carey Barnes (6-5, G, 10.7 ppg); Markelito St. Hubert (6-7, C, 10.6 ppg); Bryan Galuski (6-2, G, 11.1 ppg).

KEY NEWCOMERS: Davie Gill (6-8, C, 10.0 ppg at Garden City, Kan., CC); Kenya Bogins (6-1, G); Roger Leff (6-5, F, 12.0 ppg at Hillsborough CC).

OUTLOOK: Ryan figures if everything goes right his team will finish in the upper half of the conference. There's more experience and depth than last season, when the Tritons were ravaged with injuries after a 9-3 start. St. Hubert will once again be counted on to provide points in the paint. And Galuski will be the main man from the outside. "We're not going to go out and win the league," Ryan said. "But that doesn't mean we're not going to be a team that doesn't play hard every game. If we can find depth, guys we can put in without having a drop-off, then we'll be much better off than we were last year."

1996-97 RECORD: 7-20, 1-13 in SSC.

COACH: Brian Shultes (first season).

KEY RETURNERS: Jamie Viezbicke (5-6, G, 9.5 ppg); Lena Elliott (5-10, F, 15.6 ppg); Julia Gonzalez (5-4, G, starter before season-ending knee injury).

KEY NEWCOMERS: Lori Glenn (G, 282 assists at Keystone Heights HS); Brieanna Coffman (5-5, G); Natalie Fijalkowski (5-9, F); Katie Moor (6-0, F).

OUTLOOK: The Tritons will play a more up-tempo pace this season as Shultes tries to use his team's quickness. Expect plenty of fast breaks and a pressing defense as Eckerd tries to turn things around. Eight players return from last year, and Shultes likes his recruits. "I think we're a blue-collar team," said Shultes, an assistant last season. "I want people that watch our games to see that we play hard and give everything we have."
