Rain washes out football slate

For the second time this season, a downpour washed out Friday night high school football.

Heavy rains caused nearly all of the games scheduled in the Tampa Bay area to be postponed, which likely will again impact the revenues that pay for Pinellas County athletics. After rains washed out most of the Sept. 26 schedule, county athletic director Bob Hosack said games moved from Friday night often see a steep attendance drop, as much as 75 percent.

Football generates about $5,000 for a Friday night game and makes up 57 percent of the county athletic gate receipts.
