Police opened fire on a robbery suspect who fired at them from inside a Walgreen's drug store Friday morning, killing him.
A second suspect fled from the store alongside frightened employees and shoppers as police officers arrived at the store in north Dade County about 9 a.m.
The suspect was identified as Fernando Louis, 22, of Miami, Metro-Dade police said. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Employees directed officers to the back of the store, where a suspect was possibly holding two co-workers at gunpoint, said Nick Pimentel, a spokesman for Metro-Dade police.
As the officers walked through the store, the gunman started shooting, police said.
The officers returned fire, hitting the man, Pimentel said.
An undetermined amount of money was taken from the store and police were planning to review video tapes from a store security camera.
