A 60-year-old man was arrested by Citrus County sheriff's deputies Saturday night, accused of threatening three people with a knife. Leo Leonard Cote Jr. of 1592 S Palmer Ave. was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A sheriff's report said a man pulled a pocketknife and threatened the trio with it about 8 p.m. Saturday. He chased one of the three. The report did not list the cause of the disturbance or identify the victims. When deputies found Cote, he was "extremely intoxicated," the report said. Cote denied making threats and no knife was found on him, the report said. Cote was taken to the Citrus County Detention Center and was held Sunday in lieu of $3,000 bail.

Man charged in child abuse

BEVERLY HILLS _ Steven Lee Eshelman, 25, whose address was not released, was held Sunday on child abuse charges, accused of trying to choke a 12-year-old girl. A sheriff's report said that about 10 a.m. Thursday, a man grabbed the girl by the throat, pinned her against a wall and attempted to choke her. Neither the child's name nor the location of the attack was released. The report said the man was intoxicated and the house was in disarray: A ketchup bottle was smashed against the girl's bedroom door, and broken glass and picture frames littered floors. Eshelman was held at the Citrus County Jail in lieu of $3,000 bail.
