The Hernando County Business and Professional Women awards banquet was held Oct. 28. Several local women won awards, including Joanne Landry of Sir Speedy Printing, who was named Woman of the Year. The Women of Achievement awards for community service went to Alice Black of Deltona Elementary School; Debbie Kilgore of SunTrust Bank, Nature Coast; Angela McCabe of Columbia Regional Medical Center at Oak Hill; April Smith of State Farm Insurance; and Linda Raab of the Times.

Thomas Corn of Turner Funeral Homes in Brooksville recently became a certified funeral service practitioner. The certification is given by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice and requires 180 hours of continuing education activities.

Patty Yager of Hernando Eye Institute was named the Employee of the Month for October. She received $50, a bottle of champagne, a free car wash, a reserved parking space, lapel pin and an "On the Right Track" model train. An employee of the company for three years, Yager is a computer billing clerk.
Altrusa International Inc. of Hernando County will hold its monthly general membership meeting at 6 p.m. today at Evergreen Woods' Great Room.
