Condition of mother hurt in crash upgraded

Tina Sheldon, whose 5-year-old son died after her car hit a utility pole last week, was upgraded from critical to serious condition on Monday. Sheldon, 32, of Dade City has been in the intensive care unit at Tampa General Hospital since the crash Friday. Sheldon was driving her 1986 Nissan north on McKethan Road near Ridge Manor when she ran onto the shoulder and crashed, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Her son, Justin, died after the accident, which remains under investigation.

Correction

Three streets flooded by Friday's heavy rains _ Sheelin and Adair drives and Cavan Street _ are just outside Magnolia Valley. The location of the roads was misstated in a digest item Saturday.

Clarification

A requirement that prohibited convicted sexual predator Laverne King from living within 1,000 feet of a day-care center was improperly applied to King's probation, Circuit Judge Craig C. Villanti ruled last week. Prosecutors did not object to the motion from King's attorney. A story Saturday did not fully make those points.
