Drive-by thief gets a wallet

A 41-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint as he walked in the area of Lock and 17th streets early Sunday, Sheriff's Office reports say.

Dade City police later saw a Dodge Dynasty believed to have been involved in the robbery, but the man driving it jumped out and ran away, the reports say. The car had been reported stolen in Polk County.

The reports say Daniel Oldham was walking on Lock Street about 6:30 a.m. when a man in a white Dodge Dynasty called to him. Oldham approached the car and a man inside pointed a rifle at him and demanded his wallet. Oldham gave the man his wallet and the car sped off. The car was later sighted in the Dade Oaks housing complex.
