Trying to avoid a potential post-season mess in Class 5A, District 11, the Durant Cougars have rescheduled their home game with Lakeland Jenkins for next Monday night at 7:30.
It was to be played Sept. 26, but was postponed due to heavy rains. Instead of moving it to the following Monday (which was the funeral for Durant principal Ron Frost), it was shifted to Monday, Nov. 17. But with the 5A-11 runner-up spot possibly headed to a three-way tie, another move was necessary.
Friday night, Durant (4-3, 2-1) is at Jefferson (4-4, 2-2), while Jenkins (3-3, 2-1) hosts Plant.
If Durant beats Jefferson, the Durant-Jenkins game figures to be a winner-take-all for the runner-up spot. If Jefferson upsets Durant, the Cougars would need to beat Jenkins to force a three-way tie for the runner-up spot. If Jenkins beats Durant, it wins the runner-up spot.
Also, Durant has moved tonight's girls basketball opener to Brandon because the Cougar volleyball team will host Sarasota in a region quarterfinal match.
