Detective to address writers
Detective Sgt. John Marsicano of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will address the Tampa Writers Alliance at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, 900 N Ashley Drive. Marsicano is supervisor of homicide investigations. The meeting is free and open to the public and will be held in the library's auditorium. The Tampa Writers Alliance is a self-help group of published and aspiring writers. In addition to its general meeting, it conducts monthly workshops in several genres of writing, performs pro bono services to scholastic and literary groups in the area, conducts an annual writing contest and publishes an anthology of members' works each year. Workshop for minority students
A college workshop featuring more than 40 colleges from around the nation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Franklin Street. The focus of the workshop is to recruit minority students. Also, there will be a free ongoing reception for parents from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn Select on Fortune Street in downtown Tampa. Refreshments will be served. The workshop sponsored by the Central Consortium of Educational Support for Students will have college representatives available to speak with students to help them understand the process for admission. The workshop is coordinated by the Hillsborough County schools' guidance personnel, district office personnel and Geoffrey Heard, executive director of the National Scholarship Service.
