Author to speak on U.S. racism

Nathan Rutstein, a human rights author from Amherst, Mass., will offer a free presentation on healing racism in the United States and refer to his new book, Racism, Unraveling the Fear, at 7 p.m. Friday at 130 Davis Hall, University of South Florida, St. Petersburg campus, 140 Seventh Ave. S. No reservations are required.

Rutstein's ideas have provided the philosophical structure for more than 150 institutes across the United States. The formation of the St. Petersburg Institute for the Healing of Racism resulted from a workshop that followed Color Me Human Week.

Eight sessions make up each course, and two groups of participants have completed such classes. Those interested in beginning the third round, which will begin with Rutstein's workshop Saturday, should call 894-5791. Teams of volunteer facilitators are from St. Petersburg.
