Citrus spring may become manatee sanctuary

Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Citrus County, has become such a popular manatee swim area that state wildlife officials and local dive shops owners want the spring declared off limits to swimmers, divers and boaters. Tuesday, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials in Jacksonville took a step in that direction, requesting that the spring be given emergency sanctuary status, and eventually a permanent "no-entry zone" designation. Endangered manatees winter at the spring and cases of harassment have been reported.
