Deborah Sue Corriveau cannot understand it.
On Thursday, Corriveau was in the living room of her home on 16th Avenue SW in Largo, with her two dogs and two cats when she noticed her cat Rugsby acting lethargically.
"The cat had been listless for quite a bit," she recalled. "I felt his back and I felt a lump. I pulled up the hair and there was an open wound there. I took my scissors and pulled out what I thought was a small pellet."
Corriveau took the cat to the Clearwater Animal Clinic, where a veterinarian determined Rugsby he had been shot. Corriveau reported the shooting Monday to police. The case is being investigated as an act of animal cruelty.
Rugsby, a yellow tiger cat, has a small lump on his back but is expected to make a full recovery. Corriveau said she didn't know who shot the cat, or why.
