Boyfriend accused of stabbing New Port Richey woman, 44

A woman who was stabbed in the back during an argument with her boyfriend was released from the hospital Tuesday while her boyfriend remained in the county jail on domestic battery charges.

Marion Shadrin, 44, argued with her boyfriend, William Luther, 43, about 11 p.m. Monday at the home they share on Green Key Road, Sheriff's Office reports said. Shadrin told deputies Luther thought she had cheated on him while he was in jail last month, also on domestic battery charges.

During the argument, Luther punched Shadrin, who is disabled, several times in the face, authorities said. He then picked up a 6-inch butcher knife and stabbed her once in the back, telling her, "I hope you die," a sheriff's reports said.

Shadrin was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg and released early Tuesday.

In an interview with deputies, Luther said he had not meant to stab his girlfriend, sheriff's reports said. He said she backed into the knife while he was cleaning it, reports said.

He said he ran from the house and disposed of a bloody sheet because he was scared and did not want to go to jail.

Court records show Luther was arrested on an aggravated battery charge last month but the charge was later dropped.

This year he pleaded no contest to filing a false report with police and trespassing. He served 15 days in the county jail. He was found guilty of aggravated child abuse charges in Pinellas County in 1993 and passing worthless checks in Hillsborough in 1994.

Charged with simple battery and aggravated battery, Luther remained in the county jail Wednesday on $55,000 bail.
