Sheriff's deputies used two bean bag projectiles to subdue a man late Tuesday before arresting him on charges that he battered his girlfriend and threatened to kill deputies, authorities said.
Frank Robert Drumpus III, 27, of 2625 46th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, was charged with three counts of battery and one count of battery on a law enforcement officer. He was being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $11,000 bail.
Deputies said Drumpus began fighting with his girlfriend about 10 p.m. Tuesday in front of her son. When the fight escalated, she tried to call 911, but he disconnected the phone, sheriff's spokesman Cal Dennie said.
When deputies arrived, he threatened to kill them and broke a window. Glass from the window cut one of the deputies' hands, reports say.
Two bean bag projectiles were fired, striking Drumpus in the right arm and shoulder and causing two welts.
