Joe Nieuwendyk had his first hat trick in more than two years for visiting Dallas.

Nieuwendyk scored three goals in a game for the first time since April 10, 1995, when he was with Calgary. It was his 11th hat trick.

The Stars are 5-1-1 in their past seven games and concluded a 3-1-1 road trip.

The Penguins lost goalie Ken Wregget to back pain in the second period. Replacement Peter Skudra made his NHL debut. Wregget was starting for Tom Barrasso, who has a leg injury. Coach Kevin Constantine said Skudra may start Friday against Detroit.

Jaromir Jagr scored twice for Pittsburgh in the first period.

DEVILS 4, PANTHERS 2: Scott Niedermayer scored two goals and Randy McKay had a goal and an assist to lead visiting New Jersey over Florida, 1-6-2 in its past nine games.

John MacLean's open-net goal gave him 700 career points (347 goals, 353 assists).

Florida's John Vanbiesbrouck had 31 saves. He returned after missing three games because of a strained groin.

CANADIENS 4, COYOTES 2: Shayne Corson had a goal and an assist for host Montreal.

Corson deflected a point shot from Mark Recchi past Nikolai Khabibulin in the second period for one of three power-play goals.

Jacques Villeneuve, the first Canadian to be Formula One champion, was given a five-minute standing ovation from the crowd of 21,038 at the Molson Centre.
