St. Petersburg celebrates its museums

Museum Month, St. Petersburg's celebration of its downtown museums, continues with these program highlights today through Thursday:

+ Great Explorations, the Hands-On Museum, 1120 Fourth St. S, 821-8992:

Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. _ Edible Elements workshop;

Monday through Nov. 14, 11 to 11:30 a.m. _ Children's Book Week, storytelling for preschoolers.

+ Museum of Fine Arts, 255 Beach Drive NE, 896-2667:

Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m. _ St. Petersburg (Russia) String Quartet, concert and reception.

Sunday, 3 p.m. _ "A Stitch in Time," interactive presentation with Nan Colton.

+ Salvador Dali Museum, 1000 Third St. S, 823-3767:

Thursday, 6:30 to 8 p.m., "Celebrity Portraiture," lecture in conjunction with Man Ray exhibit, Herb Snitzer.

+ The Pier Aquarium, 800 Second Ave. NE, 895-7437:

Sunday, noon to 1 p.m. _ "Living Life Under the Sea," noon to 2 p.m.

Also participating, but with no special events planned this week, are the Florida International Museum, 100 Second St. N; the St. Petersburg Museum of History, 335 Second Ave. NE; and the Tampa Bay Holocaust Center, 5001 Duhme Road, Madeira Beach.
