Tampa Housing Authority executive director Arthur Milligan Jr. and two public housing residents are scheduled to accept a $1.2-million anti-narcotics grant today at a White House ceremony in Washington, D.C.
The Housing Authority has received federal drug elimination grants for five or six years, but never one this large, Milligan said Thursday. The two-year grant will be used to pay for resident patrols and for drug prevention programs for young people.
The two residents attending, Priscilla Pate of North Boulevard Homes and John Caldwell of Riverview Terrace Apartments, are active in resident patrols.
At the ceremony, which will include Vice President Al Gore, the Tampa Housing Authority also will receive an award recognizing its past anti-narcotics efforts.
