Add Victorian charm to your garden

Published April 25, 1998|Updated Sept. 13, 2005

Here's a great way for do-it-yourselfers to add Victorian charm to the yard this spring.

The project seats two on facing benches and features several authentic details, such as cut-outs in the side panels, decorative latticework and a pretty "bonnet" (arch). Painted white, the structure stands out among flowers and trees, but it can be stained and sealed for a more contemporary look. It works beautifully as a gateway to the garden.

The finished arbor settee measures just over 8 feet tall by 8 feet long by 40 inches wide.

The Arbor Settee plan, No. 753, is $8.95 and includes step-by-step instructions with 14 photos, full-size traceable patterns, construction diagrams and a complete shopping list and cutting schedule.

A package of four trellis plans, No. C120, is $21.95 and includes this project plus a sun trellis patio cover, an arbor trellis and a trio of simple trellises. A catalog picturing hundreds of do-it-yourself projects is $3.95. Prices including postage and handling. Please allow three to four weeks for delivery. For rush delivery, add $1 an item up to $3 maximum and allow seven to 10 days.
