Clearwater defeats St. Lucie

Right-hander Mark Rutherford held St. Lucie hitless for 6 innings and Clearwater defeated the Mets 7-4 Friday night.

The defeat ended St. Lucie's four-game winning streak and was its first in nine home games. Rutherford faced only 19 batters before Jeff Parsons bunted safely in the seventh.

The Phillies had 12 hits off left-hander Kyle Kessel and two relievers. Brian Harris had three singles, scored twice and drove in a run.

Down 5-0, then 7-1, St. Lucie had only three hits before Danny Ramirez hit a three-run home run in the eighth.

TAMPA 7, JUPITER 6: Visiting Tampa won the first game of the four-game series. A costly Hammerheads error in the seventh inning led to two unearned runs.

Reliever Robert Marquez took the loss.

The teams meet again tonight at Roger Dean Stadium. Francisco De la Cruz is scheduled to start for the Yankees; Jake Westbrook for Jupiter.

LAKELAND 8, ST. PETERSBURG 5: Outfielder Jaime Lopicollo went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI as the host Tigers won the series opener.

Rays starter Pablo Ortega gave up nine hits and six earned runs in 4 innings. Lakeland starter Justin Bettencourt yielded three runs in 6 innings.
