Periodically, religious and spiritual representatives from throughout the country and the world have traveled to Florida to share their beliefs, teachings and ministry.
The spiritual elder of the Waitaha Maori people of New Zealand, Wiremu Pounamu Poutapu Korako Ruka, referred to as Grandfather Macki within his circle of friends and in the United States, is staying in Citrus County, where he will hold seminars on a variety of spiritual topics.
One of his reasons for coming to Citrus is to share the teachings and prophecies of the Waitaha Maori, which include meditation and hands-on healing.
Ruka is not representing a denomination or organized church, but a philosophy, a way of life, a level of spirituality, he says.
"I will be lecturing on Bible prophesy, earth changes, changes within one's self and how to counteract these changes,"' Ruka said of his upcoming seminar in Homosassa.
According to a news release, Ruka was raised "by the matriarch of his culture, his grandmother, to learn and to pass along the ceremonies, stories, songs and the teachings and prophecies of his people."
The release said Ruka, referred to as an ambassador of his people with diplomatic status within his country, also does workshops and seminars on the "celestial concourse, the Akashic Records, crystal healings and soul retrieval."
He was chosen, according to the release, to visit Australia in 1993 and represent the Waitaha Maori and their culture at a council of 500 Elders of Wisdom Circles of the world. "There in his first travels outside of his country, New Zealand, he and seven other Elders were selected for a Peace Walk around the world," the release said.
Since those travels, Ruka said, he has traveled around the world five times to bring a message of peace.
He said he has traveled to destinations such as Hong Kong, Australia, Peru, Bolivia, Mexico, Canada, Israel, China, Mongolia, Russia and nations of Europe. He said he has met with well-known religious and political leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama.
Ruka said it has been a pleasure to travel the world and have the opportunity to meet such people. He said that wherever he goes, he shares with others his knowledge of spirituality.
"Spirituality is the believing and understanding the I am that is within one's self, teaching people to enhance their prayers to God, not to man, but to the Almighty and the beauty of his most holy through his son Jesus, not forgetting Mother Mary," he said.
Ruka's ancient prophecy seminar will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on May 9 at the Spirit Springs Yoga Center in Homosassa. For information or reservations, call 382-2744 and 746-1133.
