RACING TONIGHT AT SUNSHINE SPEEDWAY

WHAT: Short-track stock car racing featuring the Bud Light 100-lap Late Model Championship, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Street Stock Figure 8s, Men's Enduros and Oval Drags.

WHEN: Late Model time trials start at 6 p.m., racing starts at 7. Grandstands open at 5, pit gates at 3.

WHERE: 4550 Ulmerton Road (State Road 688).

ADMISSION: $15 adults, $5 children 6-12, children under 6 free, pits $17, parking free.

NOTES: This will be Sunshine's first big Late Model championship race of the year. Unlike in previous years, it will not be part of the Florida Pro Series. The relationship between Florida Pro and Sunshine ended after last season because the Pro Series required a different type of tire than Sunshine requires under their contracts with tire manufacturers. The parting, however, was friendly. In order to draw the best competitors from Florida Pro, Sunshine scheduled all of its three big Late Model races for weeks when the Pro Series is not running. Three of Sunshine's regulars who have an excellent chance to win include No. 22 Sammy Coghill, No. 75 Dave Pletcher, and No. 1 Wayne Jefferson. A couple of other regulars also have a good shot, including No. 69 Johnny Stanford and No. 45 John Wachtel, while No. 66 Buddy Kelley, No. 80 Roy Hosmer, No. 77 Brian Lowe, No. 4 John Gerstner, No. 2 Ralph Bowman, and No. 5 Brian Leverock have a chance. A few of the local drivers who run bigger circuits who are likely to show include Pletcher's son, David L. Pletcher, Dwayne Dempsey, Brian Campbell and Jimmy Cope. Open Wheel Modifieds will have the night off. Otherwise, it's the regular schedule this week. Also, it's the men's turn in the Enduros, but the women will be back the following week.
